Verbena hydrolate is a natural plant water obtained through the distillation of verbena leaves and flowers (most often Lippia citriodora – lemon verbena). It has a fresh, citrus-herbal scent that is refreshing, relaxing, and energizing . In cosmetics, it is valued for its toning, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties, making it ideal for oily, combination, and acne-prone skin.
Fresh verbena leaves and flowers are harvested during the flowering period, when the essential oil content is at its highest. The plant material is distilled, during which steam permeates the plant material, releasing its active compounds. The result is two products: verbena essential oil and hydrolate , a floral water containing natural plant ingredients and trace amounts of essential oils. The hydrolate is gently filtered and stored in dark glass to preserve its freshness and nourishing properties.
The obtained hydrolate contains natural compounds with antiseptic, astringent, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
